Highlights: Guest speaker and judge of the event Prof. Shubhra Nanavaty presented her views on “Statistics and its role in Big Data Analytics in the real world”. She started her speech by providing background and definition of Statistics and Big Data; and how Internet of Things is contributing to Big Data. She gave different big data application examples in the area of Media & Entertainment, Retail, Banking, Financial Services and Insurance. E Commerce giants like Myntra, Flipkart, Amazon etc. also uses Statistics and Big Data for their business analysis. She told that various softwares like Microsoft Power Business Intelligence, Tableau, etc. are used for Big Data Analysis, Data Cleaning, Data Interpretation and Big Data Visualization. She also explained Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis’s contribution in Indian Statistics. She told that to analyze large or small amount of data, you require statistics as an important tool. Finally she concluded her speech by throwing light on various job roles in the areas of Big Data and Data Science.
