Speaker: Dr. Hiral Dodiya, an ophthalmologist and eye surgeon, Shalby Hospitals, Ahmedabad

Highlights:  Dr. Hiral Dodiya said that the strain on eyes has increased to a great extent due to an increased usage of screen by students or working professionals.  The physical education has been absent since past 2 years due to the pandemic which has led to an increase in online education and our eyes get adversely affected.  Even the working professionals were given an option of work from home which led to the excessive usage of laptop, mobile phones and tablets which in turn had its adverse effects on the eyes. She also pointed out the symptoms of excessive usage of screen like eye fatigue, eye strain, headaches, blurred vision, neck and shoulder pain etc. Dr. Hiral further said that it is difficult for us to reduce the screen time and therefore we must work out the options by which the eyes get least affected. She suggested the following remedies:

Use anti reflective glasses

Use of proper lighting in the room

The screen on the monitor should always be dust free

Blinking of the eyes must also be done more often while using the monitor

Stop using screen 2 hours before going to sleep

Never use the screen at night which would disturb the body clock

She gave a very important 20 -20- 20 rule which is after every 20 minutes take your eyes away from the screen for 20 seconds and look at it the farthest possible wall 20 feet away. The webinar proved to be useful for the audience of all age groups.
